HEX Hefty is digital adaptation of a chunky slab-serif typeface originally offered by Photo-Lettering Inc. The original was designed with very long serifs (especially for the lowercase), presumably to ease the process of adjusting serif lengths for different letter combinations in tightly-spaced display typography. The goal of the digital adaptation is to automate those kinds of contextual adjustments to serif length and spacing. It’s still a work in progress.
