Daily News Gothic is a typeface designed in 1938 by Gerry Powell at American Type Founders Co. for the headlines of the New York Daily News, where it was used from 1939–1985. ATF never released the typeface for public sale. This digital adaptation, which retains most of the original’s raw characteristics, is based on a trial proof from 1939, generously made available by Fritz Klinke.
The design has since come full circle, with the digital fonts being used by Rory Simms for the Daily News Union.
